Morbid Entry Today; Read At Your Own Risk

Last night I had a rather disturbing dream that had to do with the site Rotten dot com (for those of you who don’t actually know about the site, do NOT visit it, unless you want a serious brain-fuck… You have been warned, and I won’t be held responsible for any bitchings later that you visited the site when I clearly said you shouldn’t). For some reason my dream was plagued with much violence and dead things, human and animal. Especially vivid was the image of a large pack of vicious huskies all fighting with each other and fur flying all over the place. Worse was when they all decided to gang up and maul these other poor three dogs to death. Ugh. >.< I hate those kinds of dreams. And I often wonder just WHY I get them, because if they say that dreams are supposed to reflect the things that you’ve done/seen within the days previous, then I have no idea how that turned into blood and gore. O.o I seem to have dreams of people trying to kill me all the time as well.

Anyway. This dream for some reason got me motivated to check out the website again. I say “again” because a year ago, when I was attending The School of Professional Makeup, we had to do a project on Cadaver for our Death Makeup section of the course. We basically had to do research and find out what the different stages of decomposition were, and then apply it to our makeup techniques. We even had to find some example photos and bring them into class. Crazily enough, I got the highest mark in the class, because I actually DID my research, even going as far as calling the city morgue, and speaking with a teacher who is the program coordinator of Funeral Service Education, School of Health Sciences at Humber College. The teacher used my work as an example and got the class to copy my notes! O.o

So yeah, it was kinda morbid, but I understood why it had to be done. The teacher even brought in a forensics book for us to study, and I seemed to be the only one who could actually look through that book and eat my lunch at the same time. Does that make me a sick person? *blinks* I think maybe I’m just pretty much immune to that kind of gore after seeing so many not so nice images on Rotten, it all kinda just rolls off my back now. I was browsing through a bit of the site today to take my mind off of my dream. It’s weird… every time something freaks me out, I get the urge to actually go and look deeper into it, kind of a facing-your-fear sort of thing, I guess. I dunno, it gives me closure.

I was looking at the site’s FAQ’s and feedback, and my goodness the things people have written in! Well, I’m actually not that surprised the site would get that much hate mail, but I just find it a bit amusing, the fact that people complain so much about the site, yet they go and look through it anyway!! I mean for the love of all that is sane, why on earth would you go look at something that you know is going to offend you? *smirks* Although I’ll admit, it was kind of hard for me to get too mad at the guy who put together the website, because a lot of his answers had some merit to them, and he actually made a lot of sense. Doesn’t make it right, but damn he had some good answers. This one was my favorite, regarding a pic of a dead baby:

Q. I can't believe you guys put that one in of the baby. I was at a party last night and we were laughing at all of them and then that came up. My daughter passed away at the age of 20 days of SIDS and that just grossed me out. Please take it off. Thanks, Andrea.

A. Okay, story straight -- you were at a party... laughing at other people's misfortune... and then were reminded of your own. Oh the irony.

I’m sorry, but she deserved that. You can’t be a friggin hypocrite that way. It’s just stupid. Most of the letters came from Christians as well, and they got many of the typical, “You’re going to Hell,” thing. Some people also wrote in also saying that putting this kind of stuff up on the Internet was bad because it would corrupt and influence other people to start going on killing sprees, and shame on them for “condoning a site which praises death, murder, and suicide.”

Now, I’m not saying I agree with the site. It’s got a lot of sick shit on it that’ll make you wanna gouge your own eyes out. But they CLEARLY warn you on the main page that the site contains disturbing images. It’s what it’s there for. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it! It’s common sense! But, I dunno… I don’t really think much of it. It’s just something that’s there, and people can choose to look through that stuff or not, at their own risk and sanity. It was more or less just a topic that I found kind of interesting, because it shows a good example of how strongly human morals come into play, and what we deem as right or wrong, or what is socially acceptable. Because let’s face it, humans by nature are an incredibly violent and evil species. We live for blood and guts and suffering. Why do you think people always stop and gather and watch when there’s an accident? Everyone’s looking to see that glimpse of red. So the way I see it, Rotten is just basically there to satisfy people’s need for destruction of Life. Still rather disturbing, but people will do what people will do. *shrugs*

Anyway, sorry for the morbid entry, but it was something I had to get off my mind. O.o
