I WANT MONIES!!! - Jessie T. Wolf
I WANT MONIES!!!|
Okay, this is getting ridiculous... EVERYbody's been forgetting to pay me this month!! O.o I mean, sometimes it gets a bit slow, people get busy, sometimes they can't get money orders as fast as they would like, because they have to get out of work early, or something. But lately it just feels like people haven't been trying at all, you know?
One of my FurBid auctions got sold a couple weeks ago, and the payment still hadn't arrived. And this was a fairly pricey auction too, so I was really counting on it. So I sent the guy an e-mail today asking if he had by any chance sent out his payment yet, and he was like, "Oh crap, I forgot! I'll send mine out right away!" Okay, okay... I can give that one a bit more time.
But this other guy who asked me for a commish keeps on putting his payment off too. He's like, "Oh, I didn't make as much this month as I thought I would... wait for my next paycheck in two weeks..." After two weeks... "Oh, I still don't have enough..." And he even has the gall to ask me how his pic is coming along, when he hasn't PAID me for it yet??! I've been taking my sweet time with it, since he's not exactly on the top of my priority list. And to be honest, I don't trust him, and until I see payment, he's not going to get to see the finished piece. If he doesn't send me payment by the end of this month, I'm sticking his pic up on FurBid, cos I'm sick of waiting.
I swear, it's getting to the point now where I just wanna yell out to people, "If you don't have the money to pay for a commish, then don't ASK me for a commish!" I hate to seem rude, but I only have four months left to save up for AC, and I still need to make about $300. :/ So if people keep on screwing me around, I'm going to be in a lot of trouble here. >.< Send me monies people!! Don't ask me to draw you shit if you're not going to be serious about it! It's a waste of my time!!
Current Mood: bitchy
I've been running into the same problem! Not to the same extent, apparently, but everyone does seem slow! I think there's something in the air. =P
You should probably set some sort of a time limit on commissions - if you don't recieve payment within X number of weeks, that's it. I hate to commit to that with commissions m'self, tho - since the time I take to finish them REALLY varies. ;)
I don't start a commission unless I get some money first. If I were you, I wouldn't even start the commission unless you see some gree first.

The problem I find with that is that people get bitchy about it, because they want to see proof of work, and that they like it, before they pay. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'd wanna know what I'm getting before I just send money too, cos there have also been artists out there who will get the money, but then the buyer won't see their commissions for a year, sometimes longer. O.o
So I kinda compromise. I'll make a rough sketch first, and send them a resized sample, and if they like it, then they send me money, and I finish it. And this usually works just fine. I've dealt with a lot of people, and usually they're very friendly and easy to work with.
This one guy in particular though annoys me, because he's seen his sketch, approved of it, but still hasn't sent payment. I have his pic mostly colored, only because if he doesn't pay me, I can at least put the finished piece on FurBid to auction. My patience for him is wearing very thin, however. >.< And I have a feeling I'll be ending this project with him very soon.

Thats my policy too. I'll do the sketch while we are all waiting for the mail, and show it to them, but I will NOT ink it until I get my payment. Works great so far. If they get bitchy about it not being done and you haven't received payment, well, TS...
Once a guy asked me to design a tattoo for him and said he'd pay for the ink. I sent him a sketch and never heard back. Ten to one he just gave to tatto artist the sketch.
Another good one was a commissioner who gave me the money upfront then moved and never got back to me. Life is full of situations.
You could point people who want proof before purchase to your website and say, "Do you like what you see there? Well, that's what I'm capable of.. pay me and I'll do some work for you." This treats it more like showing a portfolio to a prospective employer than doing work on speculation that they'll pay you.. which is never a nice way to do things. :(
I don't ask/commision anything untill I can pay for it...if not, I won't even ask.
Ask Artimas.....my Garurumon commision is months delayed due to monetary issues ^_^;
I've only had ONE auction go awry, and they never paid. And she lives in Scarborough too. Aside from that, all of the money has arrived promptly, and I've never had any problems myself.
And when I'm buying, I never buy what I can't already afford. None of this," I'll save up and be able to pay you for the auction in 2 months". That's rediculous.
Speaking of which, I still have some old Thornwolf prints to put on FurBid. Might put a little extra $$$ in my pocket.

You aren't the only one in the 'I need monies' taxi... I need *mutter* for rent, and ASAP... a-job hunting I do go... when I do get a job and maybe pay off my rent, I'll send you some cash to make up for the [censored] that haven't been paying you... it probably won't be much, but it'll be something....

I know how the job hunting thing goes, as I'm still looking for a job myself. My plans to move out in June are pretty much down the toilet now since I haven't been able to find work. I'm usually very leniant about payment, and I DO understand that it isn't always easy to come up with the bucks right away. But this has happened to me more than I care to think of, and it's gets frustrating, hense my little LJ rant.
My main point is simply if people (in general) don't really have the money for a drawing, they shouldn't ask for one. I've had people e-mail me asking what I charge for commissions, and I give them an estimate. If they have the money they say okay. If not, they say thanks, and when they have the money they'll get in contact with me, which I appreciate.
No need to send extra to "make up" for anything. :-P I'll be perfectly happy to just get what the original price is whenever you can manage it. You just won't get your pic until I do, that's all. O.o

Erm... I would like to note that I have commisioned nothing from anyone... ever. I think. Maybe. I know I haven't commisioned any art.
However, I do feel I should help you out with the monies... when I can. Which is not right now. >.< But when I can, I will. If you don't need the monies, then I might ask for a commision then. Maybe. If I can think of anything to ask for.

Ah... okies... *was slightly confused for a sec there* From the way you worded it, it made it sound like you owed me money for a drawing or something. O.o At first I was like, "wait... I don't remember Volkai getting a drawing from me..." but then thought that maybe you were just using a different alias. x.X My bad, sorry. You don't owe me anything hon. :-P You take care of yourself first. ^^ *wags*

Exactly. But as soon as I get myself taken care of, well... why should I be someone's friend, if I'm not willing to help them out when I can?
